In the past week I have visited both the Plaza cinema in Dorchester and the Octagon theatre in Yeovil. At a cost of £2.50 I was very impressed with the Plaza which had comfortable seats with loads of leg room. The Octagon is a delight to visit and offers very reasonably priced meals prior to the performances.
Both venues were sold out on the days I attended. What puzzles me is why a second multi-screen cinema has been built at the Brewery square when presumably we could have had a theatre similar to the Octagon. I understand an arts centre with an auditorium is being built but I somehow doubt that it will attract the quality acts which perform at the Octagon. Can a town the size of Dorchester really sustain two multi-screen cinemas? Also I sincerely hope the rest of the Brewery development looks better than the Pizza Express building which, in my opinion, is a complete monstrosity.
