DORSET is on snow alert once again.
Gritting crews from Dorset County Council will be on standby overnight with more snow expected to hit the area tomorrow, Tuesday.
Details of when, and how much, snow will fall are not yet clear, but Dorset Highways says crews will be ready to treat the main roads and ensure they remain passable.
Gritting lorries have already been out today to help residential areas still struggling with snow and ice from the weekend.
They will again tackle all Dorset’s major routes from 6pm this evening, and will be on standby from midnight.
Crews have spread around 2,000 tonnes of salt and grit over the weekend, and are currently refilling grit bins.
Head of Dorset Highways operations Andrew Martin said: “We are in regular contact with the Met Office, and will deploy our gritting crews in advance of any snow falls. The forecast is not as clear cut as it was for Friday last week, but whatever happens, our crews will be ready.”
Dorset Police are once again advising people to drive only if necessary ahead of tomorrow's snow forecast.
A spokesman for the force said: "Before venturing out, please make sure your vehicle is roadworthy and check windscreen washers, wipers and lights.
"Please also leave plenty of time to get to your destination and drive a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you."
