The Lets Make It workgroups have been in fine flow this last year, and Chair Amy Hopwood is hoping to have met everyone who took part in whatever shape or form last year at their Christmas Celebration at Cafe 123. Hopefully everyone who went was able to give some positive feedback about what they did enjoy most.
KNITTED POPPIES
Congratulations to all the dedicated Let’s Make It knitters who worked so hard in the run up to Remembrance Day to knit so many beautiful poppies. They were incredibly popular, selling out wherever we sold them, so we had a struggle to keep up with demand in the end! They raised an amazing £1112.83 through the project (for the Royal British Legion and with a small separate donation to Help for Heroes). You may also have seen LMI in the Dorset Echo with a lovely photo showing our members and the knitted poppies by the war memorial.
BABY BLANKETS
The baby blanket project is continuing and local hospitals are keen to receive more blankets from us to use in their new-born units. The size required is (approximately) 28 inches by 35 inches and the blankets can be knitted or crocheted in any colour you fancy. Please get in touch if you need patterns, wool or to hand over completed blankets.
WE NEED WOOL
In order to support all these knitting projects we desperately need donations of wool. We’ll be in touch shortly to let you know where to drop it off or how to get it picked up, but in the meantime please start stockpiling whatever you’ve got and ask friends and family for any odds and ends they may have lying around. Thanks!
NEW YEAR CRAFT SESSIONS
We are running a series of craft sessions at the Park Community Centre on Chelmsford Street during January. There is no need to book and the sessions are free, so please just turn up on the day if you are interested. Of course everyone will be able to take away one of their creations, but we are hoping people will be able to make a few extra items at each session which we can sell to raise funds for the Let’s Make It project.
DORSET BUTTONS - Saturday January 13 2013 from 10.30am - 12.30pm
This is an exciting chance to learn how to do a traditional local craft. Dorset Buttons are made from curtain rings stitched and woven with wool and decorative thread. We’ll provide all the basic materials, but if you have favourite colours of wools or threads you would like to use, please bring them along.
CARD MAKING AND SALT DOUGH MODELLING Saturday January 19 2013 from 10.30am - 12.30pm
There will be two parallel sessions running on this date – one making cards and the other modelling with salt dough, so make sure you are wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
FELT ROSES AND WOOLLEN LILIES - Saturday January 26 2013 from 2.30pm - 4.30pm
At this session we will be learning how to stitch flowers using pre-made felt or wool squares. Materials will be provided, but it would be very helpful if you could bring a pair of good scissors with you.
