Hello everyone. Firstly, I would like to congratulate Kevin Donnelly as a new member of the Chesil Bank Parish council. He has already been a regular attendee to many meetings prior to his election and I’m sure he will be a welcome addition to the council. Secondly, can I remind contributors to submit their community news well in advance of the event taking place. Recently I have had many instances of information submitted a few days before the event. I write this column a week previous to it appearing in Monday’s paper. If your event is on the weekend make sure you get the information to me the week before it appears in the Echo.
Malcolm Pugh has contacted me regarding a musical evening at Portesham Village hall on December 8th. The Mill Street band will be performing “gentle Jazz” to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal. Tickets are £10, including refreshments 7.30pm for 8.00pm start. Bring your own drinks Tickets and information available from Malcolm (01305 871001)
On Saturday 10th I attended the Abbotsbury fireworks display at the village car park. The weather was kind this year and we were treated to a good display and a great bonfire although the numbers of people were slightly less this year. Thanks to the Beachcombers for organising the event again this year.
There is a new club in Abbotsbury. The Abbotsbury Lunch Club (for persons 50 years or older) holds its first lunch at Strangways Hall Abbotsbury on Friday 30 November at 1 pm with a hot two-course lunch for £4.50. To book tickets phone 01305 871944 and speak to Philip Bilton.
There will be a Christmas Bazaar at Strangways Hall, Abbotsbury on Saturday 8 December 11 am to 3.30 pm and a Children’s Hour with Father Christmas noon onwards with stalls, mulled wine served throughout day, refreshments and a Prize Draw. All proceeds to St Nicholas’ Church Abbotsbury and Chesil Bank Pre-School
Finally, The British legion are having a Christmas shopping trip to Winchester on Thursday 29th November and the Diamond club are going to Poole on 20th November for their Christmas shopping. There is also a Christmas Bingo on Friday 30th November for the Diamond club at the Strangways hall 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.
