Jo Pickard - a Weymouth resident for 55 years - was a force of nature known throughout the town as 'Mrs P'. A native of St Ives, Cornwall, she moved to Wyke Regis with her late husband Tony and their four young sons and spent many happy years as the matriarch of a large family with the younger generations still based predominantly in the town. Full of fun, energy and kindness, she will always be known within the family as our Nanny Doolally.
Jo and Tony managed the Weymouth Sports Club at Redlands during the 1970s, when it was home to the town's Rugby, Cricket and Hockey Teams. Later, she enjoyed a second career as a Nursing Auxiliary and Ward Clerk in Portwey, Weymouth & District and Dorchester County Hospitals. In all of those places, and throughout her many years' service, she was renowned as a funny, kind, but 'no-nonsense' organiser and a mentor to many of the Doctors and Nurses who work there today.
Mrs P will be desperately missed by her large family, both here and in Cornwall, and by those who have moved further afield. We will celebrate her life in a Service at Weymouth Crematorium at 1300 on Friday 22nd November, where all are welcome to join us and remember this very special lady.
The stories and laughter will continue later at the Fat Badger, Wyke Regis, overlooking the fields and footpaths she walked for miles with her much-loved dogs.
