SOUTHWAY John Ernest A huge hole was left in our family when John died peacefully at home on 24th May 2024. A wonderful family man, much loved and missed by us all. Husband of Rosalyn, Father of Paul, Mike and the late Claire, Step-father to Craig, and Father-in-law to Frances, Kay and Janice. Grandfather of Michelle, Millie, Jon and Joe, and Step-grandfather to Anthony. Grandfather-in-law to Mat and Laura, and 'pseudo grandfather' to Jon, Chloe and Kate. Great-grandad/ "Old grandad" of Ethan, Rowan and Baby Bump, Grandad John to Logan, Ajay and Lily. John was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family, interested in all our successes and supportive of every one of us. Outside of his family, home and garden, John was an avid volunteer, particularly in retirement, when he continued to involve himself in all things Civil Service the Sports Council, the Pensioner's Alliance and the Retirement Fellowship, participating in the golf and table tennis sections of the Sports Council and offering his services, in many guises, on local and regional committees, and as a representative at Conference. He enjoyed his life-time membership of Weymouth Golf Club, and for many happy years captained the Weymouth Dorset League team. Table Tennis was a passion which he was keen to promote to upcoming youngsters as a great way to keep fit, stay active, hone skills and enjoy socialising, all of which he did after helping to establish Wyke Table Tennis Club in 2010. So, the time has come to celebrate his long and active life of almost 88 years, by gathering at Weymouth Crematorium on Wednesday 19 June at 3.15pm. Black clothing need not be worn please dress as you see fit. Family flowers only please, but donations in lieu would be welcome for Weldmar Hospicecare or HASAG, the charity dedicated to helping people suffering from asbestos-related diseases.
