ROWBOTHAM Alan It is with much sadness that we announce that our father, Lieutenant Commander Alan Rowbotham RN (Retired), crossed the bar on 15 Apr 2024, after a short illness, just 5 days short of his 88th birthday. Leaving his wife Elizabeth and sons Andrew and Mark. His funeral will be taking place at Weymouth Crematorium on 16th May at 13:00. Donations if desired may be made payable to Wilts & Berks Canal Trust or Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust and sent c/o Grassby Funeral Service, 8 Princes Street, Dorchester, DT1 1TW or can be made online by visiting www.grassby-funeral.co.uk

We got to know Alan when was the Officer in Charge at SWABS in Weymouth. In fact he became more of a friend. He was an inspiration and mentor to the 100’s of Sea Cadets that passed through his Training Centre. Alan was a great help to us during our involvement with the local cadets. Always resourceful as well a skilled seaman (sail & power) his dedication to the Corp was obvious. We shall always remember his sense of humour and his willingness to offer his help when when needed.
