BUTTERWORTH John Peacefully on 23rd December 2023 at Dorset County Hospital, aged 85 years, with his wife Jennie by his side. Former Head Teacher of Holy Trinity Junior School, Weymouth. He will be greatly missed by Jennie, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with all his family and friends. Funeral service will take place at Weymouth Crematorium on Thursday 18th January 2024 at 2.30pm. Informal dress preferred. Family flowers only. Donations if desired made payable to Sidmouth Lifeboat may be sent c/o Grassby Funeral Service, 8 Princes Street, Dorchester, DT1 1TW or can be made online by visiting www.grassby-funeral.co.uk

Mr Butterworth was a significant figure in my childhood and a good friend of my parents. I am thankful for how he lead Holy Trinity and was a role model for me and so many kids growing up. Thank you.

The Venner family has particular reason to give God thanks for John. My father was his predecessor as Head. My mother and wife were teaching colleagues. My children, Edward, Alice and Thomas were pupils. I was parish priest and Chairman of Governors. We all give thanks for him and send our condolences to Jennie. We remember him with huge gratitude. May he rest in peace. Stephen Venner.
