ED Sheeran had better look to his laurels – there’s a young pretender after his crown.

Harry Houseago is a 16-year-old musician from London who has just released his first EP, Bicycle That Can Fly.

In his quest to take his music to a wider auidience, Harry is spending the summer touring London, the Home Counties and further afield and playing two gigs a day in branches of Caffe Nero in the towns he visits.

On August 1 he will be playing at Nero in Bournemouth (noon) and Poole (3.30pm) and on August 11 you can catch Harry in Weymouth’s Caffe Nero at noon.

“It’s part of a 100-gig tour and I just want to bring music to people in different situations to where they usually listen to it,” he said.

“Also, people who are teenagers like me can’t always get to evening gigs so it’s good to do something like this and bring music to people my age.”

As well as playing the guitar, Harry plays the drums (‘but I’m rubbish at them’), keyboard, banjo and double bass. He has just completed his GCSEs and returns to college after the summer to study for his A-levels – music, art, English ‘and something else – I’ve forgotten what’.

He describes his music as a mix of styles and says when he’s not playing he’s listening to bands such as Elbow and James Blake.

“My music is a bit of a blend of jazz and folk,” Harry said.

“I really like music that’s uncluttered because that doesn’t get in the way of the emotional message in the song.

“Music is the most direct form of emotional connection and you don’t want anything to get in the way of that.”
