TWO spectacular live performances on the rolling hills of Dorset take place tomorrow and Sunday at 6pm.
Landance 2012 is bringing together contemporary dancers, singers and visual art for two displays on Eggardon Hill, near Askerswell, that are free for the whole family to enjoy.
The one-off weekend spectacle will combine beautiful contemporary dance with a stunning, specially commissioned score by award-winning local composer Andrew Dickson alongside site-specific art, playing with the relationship between humans and our landscape, by artist and director Ella Huhne. Celebrating the awe-inspiring Iron Age hill fort at Eggardon, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the hour-long promenade performances promise to be utterly unforgettable.
The performers are a combination of award-winning professionals and members of the community who have been working together since May.
Choreographer Anna Golding, who has been delivering dance workshops leading up to the event, said: “Making this year’s Landance at Eggardon has been an incredible experience – beautiful, wild and mysterious.
“The performances will take the audience on a journey like no other.”
The performances start at 6pm and the postcode for sat nav users is DT2 9EP. Wear sensible footwear and wind/weather proof clothing.
If it is raining hard, ring 07874 248530 before setting off.
Also doing the rounds this weekend is Bowlympics, the latest piece of timely, musical madcappery from Bowjangles.
As it follows the Olympic Torch route round Dorset, this is a hilarious take on this excitement and involves Bowjangles attempting fencing, rowing, gymnastics, boxing and more while playing their string instruments, singing and dancing.
You can catch this crazy show today at Cerne Abbas village hall (01300 341521), tomorrow at the Portman Hall, Shillingstone (01258 860319) and on July 15 in Studland village hall (01929 450204).
Performances will start at 7.30pm.
And don’t forget that Miracle Theater are making their annual pilgrimage to Dorchester’s Maumbury Rings tomorrow, this time with a sparkling production of The Importance of Being Earnest.
The show starts at 7.30pm with the venue opening at 6.30pm for picnics, with hot drinks will be available to buy.
