A NEW series of weekly films aimed at the hard of hearing, parents with young children and people on the autism spectrum are being scheduled in at the Plaza in Trinity Street, Dorchester.

Cinema manager Chris McDonald explained: “Films 4 All @ the Plaza is the new weekly program from the Plaza Cinema, Dorchester. We plan to offer the opportunity for everyone in the community to come and visit our cinema in a comfortable environment.

“This is an expansion from our very popular Plaza Babies and now will introduce subtitled Hard of Hearing shows and Autism Friendly Cinema shows.

On Monday afternoons from September 26, the cinema will have one show in each screen with subtitles, which has been made possible by the full digitalisation of the cinema.

On Tuesday afternoons the Plaza will screen Autism Friendly film. These have been planned with some advice from the Wessex Autistic society and will provide a comfortable environment for those with autism. The shows have the lights left on and the sound at a lower level and there will also be provision of a quiet area in our foyer so people can take a few minutes out of the screen if needed. These shows start from Tuesday, September 27.

Wednesdays will continue the Plaza Babies series of parent and baby shows. These shows have the house lights left on, the sound lower and a welcoming friendly environment for mums and dads to bring their babies without worry of disturbing the film.

Chris said: “This has now grown into a little community of parents who come weekly.”
