LOOK, I know, we don’t normally do DJs and discos in the Live! page, but sometimes you have to make an exception.
Especially when the man in question is no less an icon than Grandmaster Flash.
Yep, the dude who brought you The Message, White Lines and The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel is heading to the Electric Palace in Bridport next Friday, June 10.
Immortalised by Blondie in their hit Rapture, Flash is quite a coup for the Electric Palace.
The man revolutionised music in the late 1970s and early 1980s, pioneering the scratching and mash-ups that are common today.
The New Yorker made the turntable his instrument, and pushed boundaries in a similar way to that of Hendrix with his guitar or Miles Davis with his horn.
It may indeed be a jungle out there but it makes me wonder why Bridport seems to attract the bigger names, not just in pop and rock, but also stand-up comedy.
Needless to say tickets have almost sold out, but you still might be able to pick up the final few from Bridport Tourist Information Centre on 01308 424901 or online at seetickets.com Standard tickets are £18 in advance or £20 on door with an applied age restriction of 16 years and above. Doors open 8pm.
The support is from Ways of the Mouth from 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, music students at Weymouth College are also staging their Summer of ‘11 gig, also on Friday, June 10, at 7.30pm.
The performers are all national diploma of music scholars and they will be playing everything from Pachabel to Iron Maiden and much more.
Tickets are £5 plus concessions from the box office on 01305 208702.
And finally, a quick mention of The Indices who are launching their new EP In the Clutch of Minds at Goldies in Dorchester tomorrow night.
It’s always refreshing to see a band doing it their own way, writing their own stuff and making a go of it. Good luck to you, sirs!
