FAMILY theatre and a bunch of scarecrows will be helping to fill the final half-term weekend with fun and adventure for all. Lighthouse in Poole is staging Little Ruby Red Tells Tales, a reworking of Red Riding Hood specifically aimed at the under-fives and their families.
Once upon a time, in her favourite red, red coat, with its red, red hood, Ruby set off to visit her nan with a basket of red, red apples and other treats.
Who did she meet on the way? The three dwarves who lived with Snow White. Ella with her glassy slippers and a pumpkin. And a tiger, of course. Or did she...? because Ruby likes telling tales.
This is a delightful, musical tale of feasting and fibbing (and a bit of fighting) based on young children’s retellings of favourite fairy stories If you are quick, you can catch it at 3pm today and at 11am and 3pm tomorrow. Call 0844 406 8666 for bookings and full details.
There is surreal fun at Bridport Arts Centre today where Hiccup Theatre is staging The Owl and the Pussycat at 2pm.
Expect to meet a piggy wig with a twinkle in his eye, an evangelical turkey and the strangest tree you’ll ever see. These are just some of the intriguing characters you’ll meet in this topsy turvey world.
Tickets are £10 for adults, £6 for children, £7 for members and £30 for a family ticket. Call the box office on 01308 424204.
And don’t forget Squashbox Theatre, who will be performing the Cornish tale Skillywidden today in Burton Bradstock village hall at 4.30pm (call 01308 897214) and tomorrow at Ashmore village hall (10.30am, 01747 811364) and Kimmeridge village hall (4pm, 01929 480525).
Today and tomorrow, all are also invited to take a tour of Broadmayne village, near Dorchester, and take part in a scarecrow hunt.
The Broadmayne Scarecrow Cup is awarded to the best scarecrow, as judged by the children of the village and there are lots to find – some in some very strange places.
Trail guides and voting slips are available in the village hall and shop and the Black Dog pub and refreshments will be served in the village hall.
