The Black Dyke Band is coming to Bournemouth on June 4 to play an evening concert at the Pavilion but for aspiring brass band players, the most exciting aspect of their visit will be on the following day.

A musicians’ masterclass, hosted by Black Dyke, has been organised on Sunday, June 5 at Highcliffe Comprehensive School where local brass band musicians of all ages will have the opportunity to be tutored by, and to play with, some of the best brass band musicians in the world.

This is a unique opportunity to attend group rehearsals for individual instruments led by Black Dyke principals, followed by a short concert under the direction of Black Dyke’s musical director Nicholas Childs.

The masterclass will concentrate on improving techniques and will address the challenge of performing seamlessly with other players in the band. Four pieces of music, available in advance, will be prepared during rehearsal and performed in concert as the finale to the workshop.

Tickets are £17 (£12 under-16s). To apply, visit bestofbrass.org or call Margaret Townsend on 07754 737407.
