FOLLOWING sell-out concerts in previous years, the New Scorpion Band is back on the road for two festive dates this coming weekend.
The Holly and the Ivy is the ensemble’s much-loved seasonal show, a sparkling musical celebration of Christmas and the Midwinter season, featuring an ever-changing selection of new repertoire and some favourite carols and tunes, which are guaranteed to get you in the festive mood.
From village band to brass band, waits to wassailers, the New Scorpion Band creates a kaleidoscope of instrumental and vocal harmony.
This warming show includes early and traditional seasonal songs, stories, carols and dance music played on historical and folk instruments, and is suitable for all the family to enjoy.
The diverse material in The Holly and the Ivy lends itself perfectly to the multi-instrumental talents of the five band members, led by popular local performer Tim Laycock.
Between them they have been known to play over 32 instruments in one performance, including brass, wind and string instruments, percussion and any other instruments they can lay their hands on, from the medieval to the modern, as well as five fabulous voices.
Don’t miss this delicious seasonal concoction of midwinter songs and carolling dance tunes, performed by one of the most accomplished and versatile folk bands around – a truly festive feast.
Advance booking is highly recommended and the performances are at Herrison Hall at Charlton Down, near Dorchester, tomorrow, and Drimpton village hall near Bridport on Saturday. Both performances are at 7.30pm.
The performances are staged under the umbrella of Artsreach.
