Summerthing children’s art festival will be returning this August with an exciting and new venture, Summerthing Else.
From August 2 to 6 there will be a buzz of creativity as Summerthing Else takes place in venues including Bridport Arts Centre, Bridport Youth Centre, The Community Orchard, Waterstones bookstore, Bridport Town Hall and St Mary’s Hall, South Street.
The main festival is for children aged six to 13 years and is based around the theme of mythical creatures.
Summerthing was first established in 1994 and this summer marks the beginning of a new chapter.
Children will be able to specialise in an artform throughout the week. Choosing from Dance Space, Circus, Animation Hub, Creative Arts Workshop and a mixed programme for younger years, the colourful week will culminate in an exciting outdoor spectacle in the town’s borough gardens.
A magical transformation will take place and a mythical wonderland will be created by the children. Alongside the main event there will also be some taster sessions for early years.
Events will include workshops in dance, music, puppetry and stories and will be for children aged three to five years who must be accompanied by a carer/parent.
Booking for all the programmes takes place at 10am at Bridport Arts Centre box office.
The cost for Summerthing Else is a five day ticket at £80 and £65 for concessions and siblings.
There are also some subsidised places for children with special needs on the special needs programme.
There are also some free places available for Magna residents. Places are limited so it is advisable to book early. If you are interested please contact Nikki Northover on 07765 971357.
