A HEART-WARMING family tale of intelligence, endeavour – and rats – is being performed in Weymouth this week.
The Rats of Nimh is an adaptation of Robert C O’Brian’s much loved children’s book Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh.
Performed by students at Weymouth College, the tale explores the worrying journey that a widowed mouse, Mrs Fribsy, has to take in order to save her poor young son, Timothy.
Despite Timothy’s illness, The Frisby family have to move house in order to escape the threat of Fitzgibbon’s tractor.
In the midst of her panic, Mrs Frisby received unexpected help from a bunch of unlikely characters – a band of incredibly intelligent rats.
Mrs Frisby is soon to learn that the rats are anything but conventional. Thanks to their superior brainpower, brought about by experiments conducted in a laboratory, these incredible rodents have learned skills of literacy and mechanics.
As Mrs Frisby becomes wrapped up in their extraordinary secret, she realises that between them they can save the day – and the family.
The Rats of Nimh will be performed today and tomorrow, at Weymouth College Theatre, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost costs £6 for adults and £4 for children from the box office on 01305 208702.
