FOLLOWING the hilarious success of Potted Potter, delightful double act Dan and Jeff return to Dorset this week with their latest compressed caper. Potted Pirates sees everyone’s favourite pirate stories condensed into one hour of family comedy.
In search of talking parrots and mysterious buried treasure, CBBC presenters Dan and Jeff swap wizards for walking the plank and trade Hogwarts for the high seas.
Following its first sell-out Fringe Festival season in Edinburgh and an autumn tour, Potted Pirates sails into the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Friday, June 5 and the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil on Saturday, June 6. On the way they’ll be telling tall tales of the seven seas, from Long John Silver to Blackbeard, plus notorious cross-dressing lady pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
There’s also a full-scale re-enactment of the Spanish Armada – with a little help from the audience. Will Dan persuade Jeff to let him play Jack Sparrow? And how will Jeff keep things ship-shape with that scallywag aboard? Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner have played three sell-out Edinburgh seasons and London runs with Potted Potter – an hour-long, seven-book précis of Rowling’s opus which included a game of Quiddich among audience members – and have toured extensively in the UK.
Best known as CBBC’s newest presenters, the pair has made storytelling appearances on the good pirate ship Blue Peter and Big Brother’s Little Brother.
Daniel’s other work for the stage includes Cinderella and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol while Jefferson’s credits include Cinderella, It’s Your Choice for Cragrats and Upper-Class Motors with the New Stage Travellers. Co-writer and director, Richard Hurst directed Potted Potter and joined the writing team for Potted Pirates when it was commissioned last year.
Dan and Jeff’s Potted Pirates is at 7pm on Friday, June 5, at the Marine Theatre. Tickets cost £8 plus concessions from Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442138, or on the door.
The show is at the Octagon Theatre, Yeovil on Saturday, June 6 June at 3pm. Tickets are £9.50 plus concessions from the box office on 01935 422884.
