THERE are some lovely events taking place this weekend that all the family can enjoy.

A huge bank holiday village fayre takes place in Burton Bradstock in the delightful rectory gardens between 2pm and 4.30pm.

It is an especially important event for the community as this year marks the 80th birthday of Burton Bradstock village hall which has been specially renovated to celebrate the occasion.

Numerous fundraising activities have taken place over the last year and grants have been received from Awards For All (Big Lottery Fund), Grass Roots, Dorset’s district and county councils and Burton Bradstock Parish Council totalling almost £16,000.

It’s an ideal afternoon out for all local and visiting families, with tests of skill for children and people of all ages, lots of purchasing opportunities, a barbecue and renowned Dorset cream teas.

There is also face painting and a timed supervised obstacle course for under 12s with prizes for winners.

On Wednesday, June 1, Dorset County Museum is running a family activity based around the fascinating new exhibition Ridgeway Voices. The exhibition celebrates the South Dorset Ridgeway and visitors can discover this special landscape through the ‘voices’ of people who have a close connection with the Ridgeway, sharing their experiences and love of the area.

Listen to memories related by local residents; tales of childhood games past, first meetings with loved ones or surviving the Second World War.

Also included in the exhibition are photos, films and a collection of historic photographs and objects relating to life in the 20th century. During the family activity, which starts at 10.30am, visitors will be able to walk around the exhibition, listen to the commentaries and enjoy the images, stories and photographs they find.

They will then be able to write a poem or a short comment about the exhibition, decorate it, and fix it onto a large picture of the landscape which will have been painted onto the windows especially for this activity.

The session costs just £3 for each child and adults are admitted free.

While you are there, don’t forget to visit the Museum’s tea room which has a great selection of teas, fresh coffee and soft drinks and of course delicious home-made cakes.
