I DON’T know: Bank holidays are like buses, aren’t they?

You wait for ages for one and then three come along all at once.

After just about recovering from the royal wedding/May Day double whammy just a few weeks ago, it’s time to get out and about again for next weekend’s knees-ups.

First cab off the rank is the Quayside Music Festival in Weymouth on Sunday, May 29 and Monday 30.

The festival started off just three years ago following the demise of the town’s traditional trawler race and is now firmly established on the map as a great couple of days out and a fine chance to show off the musical talent in the area.

Organised by the irrepressible Danny Adams and the team at the Rendezvous, this year’s line-up has just been announced.

On the Sunday, we have The Replacements, Hustle, Fly Bone Yellow, Freezer, a Johnny Cash tribute band, The Shakespearos, Four-Wheel Drive, Amy Mayes Band, Paisley and the Stereoironics with Finnian inside the Rendezvous later.

If that’s not enough, it all kicks off again on the Monday with appearances from Mad Ox Bros, The Darlingtons, We Buy Gold, Lucifers Gold, The Animal Urges, Surfin’ Birds, Stompin’ Goats, The Embassy, Thomas and the Mock-Ups and the Mumjums Soul Band with Reactor inside later on.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, May 29, the Lazy Lizard up on the Esplanade is hosting its annual Trawler Trashed all-dayer.

Bands so far confirmed include Cheap Shots, Mr Bucket, Paisley, Morphs, Starbug, Tom Morris, We Buy Gold and DJS Willis, Mr Gibbs, Si Farstar and Alex Fuhrmann.

Moving on down the bus, tribute bands are a bit of a dilemma for me.

They’re either rather lame or very, very good: Iron-On Maiden quite easily fall into the latter category, with face-melting musicianship and amazing stage presence.

You can relive the glory that was Donnington in 1992 tomorrow night with a trip to Finn’s in Weymouth. Run for the hills…
