With that Friday feeling and keen to start the weekend early, a few friends and I decided to head down to the The Lugger Inn and have a drink during our lunch hour.
In a quiet setting in Chickerell, The Lugger Inn is a traditional pub with a substantial beer garden and restaurant. The décor was very homely with maritime themed artefacts and pictures dotted about the place.
Fully aware of the fact we had to go back to the office we all ordered soft drinks.
However, The Lugger Inn boasts a good selection of local and guest real ales and had it been a Saturday I would have definitely sampled some of the selection.
A lot of the produce is sourced locally and is homemade and I had a hard time choosing from the extensive menu.
I was particularly impressed that the curries are all homemade to authentic Mauritian recipes – ranging from £7.50 for the egg curry to £8.95 for the beef and black lentil curry.
With my healthy hat on, I finally decided on the scallop and bacon salad (£8.50). My not so diet conscious friends opted for the homemade beefburgers (£7.75). There is also the option to add cheese or bacon for an additional £0.95.
When it all arrived it looked delicious.
My salad was flavoursome although the scallops were a tad overcooked.
My friends enjoyed their burgers and found them quite filling and very tasty. Wary of time we all decided to skip dessert and get back to work.
I did get a sneaky peek at the dessert board and promised myself I would order the Peach Melba Torte on my next visit and maybe not when I’m on a health kick.
The Lugger Inn is a great ‘locals’ pub and although not particularly fancy, the food is very reasonably priced and well presented. If you are looking for a change to your regular pub then head down to this little gem in Chickerell.
My Lugger Inn bill:
2 Homemade burgers: £15.50.
Bacon topping: £0.95.
Warm Scallop and Bacon Salad: £8.50.
2 cokes and 2 cordials: £3.55.
Total: £28.50.
