ARE we too busy counting calories and not busy enough counting chemicals?
Are we getting enough fresh air? Did you know that holistic foods and recipes are being offered right on your doorstep?
A new holistic fair – the first of its kind in Dorset – aims to help busy residents get better peace of mind.
The Eden Park Holistic Lifestyle Fair, taking place on Saturday, October 4, is the brainchild of Primrose’s Kitchen founder Primrose Matheson. The event, at Eden Park, Buckland Newton, aims to promote natural food producers and natural lifestyle products based in the South West.
Primrose started her business in Rampisham in 2013 with organic raw vegetable muesli.
Having studied naturopathic health, she wanted to use her knowledge of how to keep our bodies balanced in to designing natural and wholesome food.
The products proved popular and the business expanded, now also selling organic nut butters and ‘superfood’ smoothie mixes.
Today, the company is based at Eden Park, and Primrose says it’s the perfect location to hold a holistic fair.
“When we were looking for a new base, I wanted somewhere that would inspire me,” Primrose said.
“Industrial estates can be so grey and concrete and there’s no natural light.
“We need fresh air - we’re human beings.
“I am so fortunate to have found this place; it fits in with our ethos and where we want to go.” Naturopathy comprises of using the ‘healing power’ of nature to treat illness or conditions.
This could mean applying nutrition, water, fasting and exercise as therapy instead of medication.
Naturopaths say that using a range of alternative methods to help diagnose a condition can often pin-point a predisposition in the body before the onset of acute disease.
Primrose is hoping that in the future the company will be able to offer kitchen workshops.
But her immediate hope is that the holistic fair will be a success for residents and small businesses alike.
She said: “There are so many people around offering holistic services, but the trouble is that unless you are specifically looking for them, they can be right under your nose without you knowing.
“Hopefully the fair will make people aware of what is on offer right here in Dorset. And when you are a one-man-band business, it can be difficult to get your name out there.
“An opportunity like this, to be around people in similar situations, can be a real encouragement.”
The fair takes place on October 4 from 10am-4pm and admission is free.
Stalls cost £25 and more information on booking is available from Primrose on 01300 345226.
