Weymouth's central post office got the stamp of approval after it reopened following a refurbishment - and with a new, permanent postmaster at the helm.
The main town centre branch in St Thomas Street has reopened following a two-week refit.
Deputy Mayor of Weymouth Cllr Ann Weaving was invited to cut the ribbon and declare the new-look branch open.
She also met the new enthusiastic postmaster Liam Searle, who has come over from Swanage to run it who says he is 'passionate' about the branch.
The site has been operated by a temporary postmaster since May 2019 and the Post Office wanted to install a permanent postmaster.
Cllr Weaving, said: “It gives me great pride to officially open this new-look post office and shop. It is a much improved environment for customers and those working at the branch. I want to congratulate the new postmaster Liam Searle for all the work carried out.”
The branch has undergone a 'big, high quality refit' and the shop selling cards, stationery and some gifts has been transformed. The location of the post office counters have changed and there are five in total – two full-screened, two open-plan and a post office counter alongside the retail counter. There is also new signage outside.
The staff, many of whom have been based in the town for 20-30 years, will continue to work at Weymouth.
Mr Searle, whose parents and grandmother have all worked in post offices, said: “There has been a major refurbishment of the shop, for a modern, bright and professional look. The shop has been totally transformed.
"The staff are very experienced. They are very excited about having a permanent postmaster again."
He added: "I am passionate about Weymouth Post Office and I want to create a very good town centre branch. I really do care.”
Opening hours of the branch are 9am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-2.30pm on Saturday.
Matt Walls, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We wanted a more secure footing for Weymouth Post Office and we are delighted that Liam Searle, our experienced postmaster for Swanage, is now operating this branch. The big refurbishment has greatly improved the appearance of Weymouth Post Office.”
