RAIN once again played havoc with the Wessex Internet Dorset Premier League schedule, wiping out all five matches in the county’s top tier.

Dorchester had built nicely to 100-1 from 17 overs against Broadstone before rain arrived, Jamie Barrett hitting 61 not out from 52 balls.

They remain third, 27 points behind leaders Wimborne who suffered their fifth rain-curtailed match in just 15 games.

The Minstermen reduced Poole to 27-3 before rain arrived, gaining an extra bowling point and ensuring no damage was done in the title race.

Bere Regis were the only side to gain ground on Wimborne, their tally of seven coming after taking two bowling points against Sherborne.

Brian Keegan’s men reduced the visitors to 71-4 at Bere Regis Rec, Rob Murphy snaring 3-24, before the elements intervened.

Bere stay in fourth, now just two points adrift of rivals Dorchester, while Cattistock & Symene did not bowl a ball against bottom side Christchurch. Martinstown were washed out against Blandford.

Eight in ten matches across County Division One and Division Two were lost to the weather, with Witchampton beating Portland and Weymouth defeating Compton House respectively.

In Division Three, ninth-placed Abbotsbury lost by two runs to Royal Challengers Sports but gained a vital 11 points in their bid to stay up.

Three other matches survived, with Martinstown Seconds beating Blandford Seconds by 18 runs in Division Four, Weymouth Seconds seeing off Cattistock & Symene Seconds by five wickets to seal promotion from Division Five and their title rivals Poole Fourths losing to Winton Seconds by 35 runs.
