JURASSIC COASTERS 73

VALE VIPERS 67

JURASSIC Coasters overcame in-form Welsh team Vale Vipers with a 73-67 home victory in the under-16s’ South West region NBL.

Vipers won the tip-off but it was the Dorset boys that drew the first points with Eoin Goring making the first lay-up.

Louis Weaver doubled the home team’s lead but points were hard to come by.

Owen Leivers was next to take a point after being fouled on the way up to the basket.

Coasters were 5-0 up before the Vipers got their first points which came from the line after a foul.

The baskets weren’t falling for either team with only Brad Morgan being able to find the spot for a three-minute period mid-quarter.

Vale’s number six claimed six points and two fouls off the hosts in the seventh minute which took the Coasters into team fouls.

Before the end of the quarter, the Vipers took five from six points from the line while the Coasters stayed in front with a down town shot from Weaver.

Vale quickly capitalised with five points in the second quarter and took the lead for the first time.

But Coasters came back to life with Giuseppe Landolfi being fed the ball from Henry Ackerley and getting points on the sheet.

Goring was fouled on the way up but was unable to take advantage of the free throws but went on to claim the home team’s next two baskets.

With baskets from Landolfi, Morgan, Weaver and Goring the home team managed to level.

Late in the first half, the Vipers pounced from outside the three point line and went into the break 37-34 in front.

Morgan and Landolfi were quick to drive in the first points of the half as the latter scored 15 points.

Vipers were forced into calling for a time-out as they dropped point after point.

Morgan took the final points in the quarter as the hosts held a slender lead.

For the first three minutes of the final quarter, the teams traded baskets until Leivers broke the stalemate with a break up the lane and finishing with a lay-up.

Vale again got to the line but only converted one. Another lay-up took the Coasters into a double figures lead but the Vipers got a brace of baskets to reduce the lead to six.

Vale pushed hard and took five of the last seven points but the Coasters took their first ever win over the Welsh side.
