MASSAGE WEYMOUTH RAIDERS 58 EXETER COLLEGE 59
EXETER College ended the Raiders’ unbeaten home record with a victory by the narrowest of margins.
The hosts looked strong in the first quarter as Jack Speary and Jeff Robert-shaw helped to keep up the tempo.
However, Robertshaw was sidelined with an ankle injury near the end of the period and did not return.
The quarter finished with the Weymouth outfit leading 19-16.
Quarter two was just as fast paced with Piotr Lason and Pavel Dimitrov making shots under pressure.
Strong rebounding from Josh Turner and Connor Doherty helped keep the Raiders in the game but they trailed 31-29 at half-time.
The second half began with six straight points from the opposition as the Raiders began to struggle.
Coach Craig Sorrell switched the defence and the Raiders slowly started to claw their way back into the game.
Speary and Andy Steel both hit three-pointers when they were needed most.
After building some momentum, the Raiders won the quarter 15-11 to leave everything up for grabs going into the last period.
The final quarter was a close affair with both teams trading points, but ultimately the Raiders couldn’t deal with the pressure and the outside shooting of Exeter.
Sorrell said: “We still sit second in the Exeter & District League Division Two table so I’m still positive going forward.”
Roster-scorers: Piotr Lason 16, Jeff Robertshaw 11, Jack Speary 9, Josh Turner 8, Pavel Dimitrov 6, Andy Steel 5, Rory Legg 2, Matt Clarke-Williams, Connor Doherty, Jamie Dixon.
MVP: Piotr Lason
