Exeter & District Men’s Division One
WEYMOUTH COLEMAN INSURANCE COWBOYS 36 EXETER UNIVERSITY 87
WINLESS Weymouth Cowboys were humbled by league leaders Exeter.
The hosts came into this game still looking for a victory after three previous attempts had failed to bear any fruit.
Weymouth started the more positively, despite having only eight men, showing a great passion in offence and in defence, highlighted by Simon Dean and Scott White, pictured.
Even though Exeter was far more clinical in the finishing, this was mainly due to Weymouth giving away many fouls in the first quarter, which ended 24-10 to Exeter.
The second quarter carried on in a similar vein with Weymouth giving their all.
Despite the scoreline, the contest was a closely competitive clash.
Weymouth changed tactics and despite going from the zonal man-to-man defence, the deficit was 30 points by the end of the second quarter.
The Cowboys started to lose their intensity in defence and silly fouls were being committed and were punished by Exeter.
Weymouth could only score eight points in this period compared to Exeter’s 20.
The fourth quarter started with Weymouth looking to restore some pride into the game as it had be effectively over since the end of the second period.
Weymouth came out fighting by scoring the first two baskets in the quarter.
However, Exeter got themselves back in control with fast breakaways.
Then it got worse for the home team as Jake Kinder was ejected from the game as the students sealed the points convincingly.
Cowboys: Dan Campbell 7, Scott White 6, Jake Kinder 6, Simon Dean 6, Tom Storey 5, Max Gilmartin 4, Jake Campbell 2, Rob Legg.
