Developers are asking for the public’s thoughts on a proposed housing scheme at a former farm site in Dorchester designed by a Poundbury architect.

Leaper Homes will be submitting a planning application for seven homes on a redundant farmyard site close to the Dorchester Bowls Club on Armada Way in Fordington.

Developers propose five detached homes and what they have described as two affordable coach houses.

Ahead of the submission for the planning application, the developers will be displaying the proposed plans at a community consultation event today.

Dorset Echo: If the plans go ahead, it will include the demolition of the metal farm shed on the site as well as former dairy buildings.

Six of the homes will be accessed via the car park operated and owned by Dorchester Town Council at the end of Armada Way, whilst one home will be accessible via the existing farmyard track off the B3144.

As part of the plans, there will also be new gates installed to the bowls club. 

The scheme has been designed by Ben Penreath, who has also been responsible for many of the buildings in Poundbury, including the first phase of Pummery Square which includes the site of Brownsword Hall and the design of Woodlands Crescent.

According to the developers, five of the homes will be delivered as a custom build, with two homes to be sold at a discount to the open market value.

The event is set to take place  at the Dorchester Bowls Club off Armada Way on Wednesday, May 15 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The development team will be on hand at the event to answer questions from members of the community with anyone allowed to drop in at anytime to view the plans.
