A lawyer from Weymouth has been named “Mentor of the Year” for the second time in three years.
Barry Baines, 78 , received the award at the Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL)’s annual dinner in Guildhall on Friday, May 10.
The ARDL is a membership body for those who work in regulatory and disciplinary law including judges, King’s Counsel, junior barristers and solicitors.
The association began a mentoring scheme in 2022 to assist the development of less experienced members by partnering them with more experienced members as mentors.
The Mentor of the Year award was subsequently created the same year to recognise the work of those mentors who have given up their time to provide support and guidance to their mentees, to help them thrive in their careers.
Sam Thomas, the chair of the ARDL, presented the award to Barry, describing him as “a perennial nominee for the award who has done so much over the years to support junior ARDL members.”
This marks the second time Barry has received the award from the ARDL, having also won in 2022.
Barry said: “No matter how experienced we are or what we have achieved, we can all benefit from mentoring by professional colleagues.
“Over the years many such people have helped me further my career, and it gives me pleasure to be able to help others in the same way.”
