A MAN has been charged with assaulting a police officer and possessing a class B drug at Portland Port.
As previously reported, police were called to the Portland Port complex on Thursday, May 16.
Officers received a report that a man had been found in possession of a quantity of suspected cannabis at Portland Port at around 12.41pm.
Police said the alleged assault happened as officers went to make an arrest.
Dorset Police said today, Friday, that a 29-year-old man from Portland has been charged with offences and is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 7.
The Echo contacted Portland Port for comment about the incident on Thursday and they referred us to the Home Office.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “We do not routinely comment on live police investigations.”
