Dorchester 0 CRAWLEY TOWN 6
ASHLEY Vickers labelled last night’s drubbing at the hands of Crawley Town as “the haves against the have-nots".
Big-spending Crawley, who fielded £100,000 winger Sergio Torres, hit the Magpies for six at the Avenue Stadium courtesy of a blistering display.
And county town chief Vickers, who welcomes former employers Dagenham & Redbridge to Dorchester this afternoon (3pm), said: “Crawley are a very good side and it’s hard to put a positive slant on a 6-0 defeat – it was the haves against the have-nots.
“It was a fitness exercise for us first and foremost, we were very rusty and the goals we conceded were rusty.
“That’s unacceptable and it was expressed to the boys at the end. It’s imperative to bounce back and learn from it, and we’ve got the chance to do that against Dagenham.”
Vickers gave 45 minutes to ex-Daggers Academy winger Dan Abioye and said: “He did well, he’s very honest and he’s only 18. We’ll give him another game as playing against Crawley was a baptism of fire.”
The Blue Square Bet Premier side exerted their superiority from the start and took the lead inside four minutes as captain Adam Quinn tucked home a Stevie Masterton corner.
And it was 3-0 by the midway stage of the first half with Liam Enver-Marum bagging a double.
Dorchester came closest to scoring on the stroke of half-time when Ryan Hill’s free-kick from the left rattled the crossbar.
Crawley were gifted a fourth eight minutes into the second period. Substitute Byron Napper was denied on the line by Charlie Knight but the Magpies’ trialist, who made a successful goal-line clearance in the first half, saw his hack rebound off replacement keeper Regan Coward and into the net.
Enver-Marum grabbed his hat-trick on the hour before Napper completed the rout in the 73rd minute.
