UPWEY & BROADWEY 3

PORTLAND TOWN 1

PORTLAND Town lost their unbeaten record in a 3-1 defeat by neighbours Upwey & Broadwey in their Dorset Senior League derby at Monmouth Avenue.

After an even start, Callum Norman had the first effort of note on nine minutes when he curled an effort wide after Jordon Moore intercepted a pass 30 yards out.

Some panicked defending allowed Marcus Biles to slot in Mike Stone but his effort was wild when well placed.

As the end-to-end start continued, George Christopher brought a smart save low to his right from Harry Reynolds and at the other end Ben Tyrell batted away a Willie Walden header.

Stone’s header flew over as the visiting defence looked at each other on 22 minutes and Moore then got around Reynolds but Carl Lewis recovered to clear off the line.

It was good pressure now from Town as they looked after the ball better, Reynolds saving low again, this time from Norman and then Gary Harvey ran clear but his lobbed effort drifted just wide as Town pressed.

Town started the second half on the front foot and on 49 minutes broke the deadlock when Norman’s corner was headed home by Leon Attree.

Upwey found their way back into the game on 54 minutes courtesy of a set-piece.

A deep cross came in, Stone lost his man and the ball found its way over the line through Tyrell.

The game remained in the balance but Town started to contribute to their own downfall as a stray Norman pass found Biles and he found Walden who had got inside Harry Mitchell.

There was still a bit of work to do but he directed a nice finish inside the far post.

The game seemed to go up a notch and the returned to a dogfight of sorts but on 80 minutes Tyrell lost possession via an ill-advised move when he tried to take on Stone in his own box.

Stone won the tussle and simply rolled the ball into an empty net for 3-1.

Town never gave up and on 86 minutes a dipping effort from Harvey was turned onto the bar by the superb Reynolds as Upwey made sure of all three points.
