DORCHESTER Town have re-signed versatile defender Charlie Madden for the 2021/22 season.

The central defender signed on a permanent deal last summer having impressed during a loan spell from Weston-super-Mare in the previous campaign.

Madden has made 11 career appearances for the Magpies, his time at the Avenue hampered by national lockdowns and occasional injury.

However, Dorchester will look to Madden to form a solid defensive partnership with skipper Ash Wells in the upcoming Pitching In Southern League Premier South campaign.

Dorchester boss Robbie Herrera told the club's official website: “I’m pleased to have him signed up again for the coming season.

"There's a bonus in that he can play at the back or he can do a job in midfield.

"Charlie’s got bags of talent, we just need to keep him fit and firing.

"He's another one that we will look to push on - he could play higher, that's without a shadow of doubt, but just needs to apply himself a little bit better, and hopefully we're going to give (him) the platform to do that this coming season.”

Madden joins Wells, Tiago Sa and Tom Purrington in having committed to Dorchester for the new term.
