MARTIN Puckett has been selected to play for England in the British Isles Senior International Series against Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The talented star will line up in Llanelli in March alongside international stars Louis Ridout, Greg Harlow and the recalled David Hubbard.
This is a fine achievement for the youngster, who skips for Moonfleet indoors and Greenhill outdoors.
Puckett’s club Moonfleet are certainly enjoying a good season so far.
The Weymouth club defeated Taunton Deane in the Denny Cup.
At home, Brian Burroughs, Dean Curtis, Mike Gale and skip Darren Nutman had a ding-dong affair with B Porter, D Dykes, T Foxwell and B Southwood. The Taunton four were 8-6 up at 10 ends and 15-14 ahead after 17, but the Moonfleet squad dug in and it finished 17-all.
The home companion rink of Ryan Nash, Mike Durant, Doug Rumble and skip Jamie Lockwood were also in battle against M Tucker, K James, A Jenkins and M Beale. Taunton’s quartet were leading 10-8 at seven ends but Moonfleet’s four got their act together going 13-11 up at 12 ends and 21-11 at 15. However, back came Taunton with a superb run of a four, three and two singles to go 21-all after 21 ends.
An extra end was played to determine the winners, which was won by Moonfleet to give them a 22-21 win meaning a shot difference of one at home over the two rinks.
The two away foursomes did a super job at Taunton. Warwick Brown, Warren Smith, Neil Burroughs and skip Puckett did a demolition job against D Clarke, B Archer, L Herman and T Day.
The Moonfleet four went into overdrive, going 15-4 ahead after 10 ends and 28-9 at 18, courtesy of a brilliant five on that end, eventually running out worthy winners 31-13.
The away companion rink of Keith Wyman, Chris Cook, Ron McCarthy and skip Barry Patterson were up against T Parsons, C Tackle, R Hooper, and S Hooper. Patterson’s four were holding their own at 10 ends, leading 10-8, however, by the 15th end were one shot adrift 14-13 by the 18th.
Taunton then rallied, recording a four and two threes. Patterson’s rink came back with a single and but were eventually beaten 23-16, to give an away advantage to Moonfleet over the two rinks of 44-36. However, the overall scoreline to the seasiders got them through over the four rinks.
