CHAMPIONSHIP outfit Charlton Athletic have emerged as one of the clubs interested in Dorchester Town striker Kieffer Moore.
It is understood the 20-year-old impressed Addicks’ chiefs during a trial at the Valley though, as yet, no offer has been made for the prolific centre forward.
Scouts from the former Premier League club were reportedly among those keeping tabs on Moore last season as the front man netted 20 times in the Blue Square Bet South.
Magpies’ manager Phil Simkin revealed to Echosport that the Londoners had run the rule over Moore after inviting him down to train with them.
And Simkin admitted that although he doesn’t want to lose Moore he wouldn’t be able to stand in his way if he was offered a shot at the big time.
“Kieffer has been at Charlton where I’m told he did particularly well,” said Simkin. “But we’ve had no firm offer yet. He was invited to train and apparently it went okay so we’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens.
“We couldn’t stand in his way if a chance like that came about.
“I don’t want to see him leave for obvious reasons but I wouldn’t stand in his way and he knows that.
“He is still a young lad and very raw and scored 20 goals in his first season at this level.
“Lots of clubs are interested, Charlton being one of them.”
It has been a quiet few weeks for the Magpies since the season ended with no news of any other possible signings or departures for now, according to Simkin.
And only at the end of this week when chairman Shaun Hearn and the Community Trust are set to become joint majority shareholders of the club will Simkin know in greater detail the sort of budget he has to play with next season.
That deal is due to go through on Friday and until then Simkin is unable to do much in the transfer market.
“Obviously, the merger with the trust means everything is more or less on hold and as I understand it’s due to be completed on Friday,” he added.
“It’s been a difficult period. There are lots of things I’d like to do and people I’d like to speak to but until I get a budget there is not too much I can do about it.
“I’m just waiting to hear what I can and can’t do but hopefully it will be good news.”
Meanwhile, the Magpies boss said he was pleased to see Salisbury City win promotion after a 3-2 extra-time victory against Dover Athletic in the Blue Square Bet South play-off final on Sunday.
