SOUTHSIDE Angels Girls Under-12s took the Dorset FA Futsal tournament title after fighting off a six-strong field at Redlands Sports Hub.
The Angels negotiated the group stages with hard-fought victories over local rivals Real Weymouth and the impressive Longfleet girls.
Portland girls lay in wait in the semi-finals, and the Angels again showcased their neat passing game to break Portland’s resistance and march into the final.
Longfleet, who the Angels had beaten in the group stages, would face them again after narrowly winning a penalty shoot-out against hotly-tipped Corfe Mullen in the other semi-final.
Emulating their group stage performance, Southside defeated Longfleet to claim the title with a goal in the dying seconds from Amy Goodman to dramatically finish a high-quality match.
Team manager Marc Day was delighted with the girls’ performance.
He said: “With all the commitment and hard work the girls put in they got what they deserved.
“It was a fantastic tournament and the skills on show were a credit to girls football in Dorset.”
Following their success, the Angels now go on to represent Dorset in the eagerly-awaited regional finals in Swindon next May.
Southside would like to encourage any girls interested in football to come along to their training sessions.
Any girl in school years three to eight is welcome, and the first month is free.
Any prospective players can give club chairman Mark Allen a call on 772089 or 07729369490 for further details.
Next season, Southside are also aiming to start a boys’ football team and are looking for under-12 players.
Players with any level of experience are welcome. If you are interested in joining Southside Colts contact Marc Day on 823826 for more information.
* Futsal is a high-octane, action-packed five-a-side indoor game that places an emphasis on skill and quick passing.
