FIREFIGHTERS battled a lorry blaze on the A37 in Frampton.
The fire broke out on Long Ash Lane and crews from Dorchester and Maiden Newton used two sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze, which was in the cab of the lorry.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out at about 1pm and was under control by 2.30pm.
The road was closed due to smoke limiting visibility.
The cab of the vehicle was completely destroyed but the goods which were being carried are not thought to have been damaged.
Mike Fountain, who lives nearby, said: "I was in the living room when I heard a loud bang and looked out to see big black smoke clouds.
"When I went out I saw the lorry on fire, and a minute or two later the fire crew arrived.
"A passing paramedic stopped to check over the driver and said he was ok."
