HERE'S some wonderful pub memorabilia courtesy of Sheila Blackwell of Hertfordshire.
She sent us some old postcards and an old picture business card of the Wise Man Inn at West Stafford, near Dorchester. Of course, most of us remember when the most of the original building was destroyed by a fire in 2006
The business card includes a welcome from landlady and landlord Doris and Eric Hall. We learn that 'home made pasties' were on sale at the pub - a far cry from the range of food on offer there today.
The card says: "Enjoy the pleasant atmosphere and the olde worlde charm of this lovely country inn deep in the heart of Hardy Country and situated only one and a half miles from Dorchester."
The colour postcard gives us a flavour of the pub.
It says: "The inn is renowned for its magnificent collection of mugs, Toby jugs and antique pipes. The thatched roof is decorated with a variety of animals and on the front wall is an old poem attributed to Thomas hardy, which starts: "I trust no Wise Man will condemn, a cup of genuine now and then."
Thanks to Sheila for this piece of pub nostalgia! Do get in touch if you have some of your own to share.
