DORSET residents are being urged to have their say on the fate of the county’s Libraries.
Campaign group Ad Lib, the Association of Friends of Dorset Libraries, is calling on people to support its proposals to spare the 20 libraries threatened with withdrawal of Dorset County Council funding by filling in a questionnaire.
Chairman Graham Lee said: “The nationwide referendum on how we should run our parliamentary elections may not have caught the attention of everyone in Dorset but everyone here has the chance to vote on a matter that really has been making headlines – the fate of the county’s village and small town libraries.
“We urge everyone in Dorset to get hold of a copy of the questionnaire put out by our library service.
“You’ll find a lot of questions, of course, but what’s important is that you make sure you vote for Option Two, Ad Lib’s suggestion for helping the county council to achieve the savings it needs to make without closing a single library.”
People don’t have to be on the electoral register, over 18 or even be a regular library user to vote.
The consultation period runs until June 13, with questionnaires available from libraries across the county or at www.dorsetforyou.com/libraries
