HAIRDRESSERS rushed to their salon in the middle of the night after burglars set the alarms off.
Owners Laura Dench and Amy Laming – who is eight months pregnant – were alerted to the break-in at H2O in St Thomas Street and arrived to find their inner door had been smashed in.
Police arrested two 16-year-old boys who were taken into custody and are helping them with their inquiries.
Miss Laming said travelling from Portland during in the night was an added stress so close to her due date.
She said: “It was not what I wanted to be doing at 1.30 in the morning when I’m eight months pregnant to come over and have people breaking into my shop.
“It’s not fun at all.
“You just feel violated to think someone could do that really.”
Miss Laming said she did worry about what she would find at the hairdressing salon.
She said: “I didn’t know what I was coming to.
“I came from Portland so everything is going through your head.
“You don’t know what you are going to find and the stress it could cause this far into my pregnancy. It could’ve taken me into labour.”
The raiders fled after the alarms were set off at the salon early on Monday morning. Mrs Dench is angry that the offenders may have wasted her and the police’s time.
She said: “They’ve got in through a window at the back and come up the stairs and kicked the door in or used a chisel.
“The alarms would have then gone off so they’ve legged it.”
The two owners worked yesterday after being up all night helping the police.
Mrs Dench added: “It wastes so many people’s time.
“Two sets of police were here at two different times when they should be doing other stuff.”
Detective Inspector Marcus Hester, of Weymouth police, said two teenagers from Weymouth were arrested.
He said: “There are two 16-year-olds in custody on suspicion of breaking into the hairdressers in the town centre.
“Following the police being called there they were detained.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information about the break-in yesterday morning is asked to call Weymouth Police on 01305 222222.
