A Dorchester schoolboy was left devastated when a scooter he had saved up his pocket money for was stolen.
Reece Faulkner, who turns 13 next week, was enjoying himself on a ride at the Dorset County Show at the weekend when the £59 scooter was taken.
The thrifty youngster spent 10 weeks saving the money to buy his new scooter and had it for three months.
Reece’s black JD Bug Scooter with grey diamond back grips was taken as he went on one of the rides at the fairground area of the showground at around 7pm on Saturday.
Mum Carole Faulkner said: “He put his scooter down and got on the ride and when he got off it was gone.
“It’s annoying because he loves that scooter and he’d saved up his pocket money for it.
“If he wants something like that he saves for it.”
Dorchester Middle School pupil Reece, who used to enjoy taking his scooter down to the town’s skatepark, said: “It’s not a nice thing to happen, I just left it outside the ride and it was gone when I came back.
“None of my friends saw anything.”
Carole added: “I said to him he shouldn’t have left it and he said he wouldn’t have taken somebody else’s scooter, but he has got to accept there are people like that out there.
“It is upsetting for him because he just can’t believe someone would do that. It’s a shame that some people will just take your things.”
She added that her boy is now worried about taking his bike out in case that gets stolen too.
She urged anyone who might have seen anything or who sees a scooter matching the description to report it.
Reece added: “It was different to most scooters because it had different grips and it wasn’t one of the cheap ones.”
He said he was unsure if he was going to start saving again for a new scooter.
Inspector Les Fry of Dorchester Police confirmed the theft had been reported and asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact Dorchester Police Station on 01305 222222.
