A manager at a veterinary practice has scooped up a prestigious award at a ceremony in Manchester.

Johanna Moore, local practice manager at Dave Cumber Vets at Link Business Park in Chickerell, was awarded the prized title of practice manager of the year at the 2024 Petplan Veterinary Awards.

The ceremony which took place at the Albert Hall on Friday, March 22, was hosted by TV personality Claudia Winkleman.

Flying the flag for Dave Cumber Vets, having been awarded the title of practice manager of the year, Johanna Moore said: “It’s absolutely amazing, I could not do it without the team.

“It means everything, it’s unbelievable – I still can’t quite get over that I was even a finalist, let alone that I’ve won it.

Johanna revealed that her secret to success was about having a ‘nice morale’ within the team, saying: “It’s everything, just to give the staff some autonomy to be able to do the best they can do in their job.”

Now in its 25th year, Petplan received over 38,000 nominations from pet owners and veterinary colleagues.

An expert panel of independent judges were made up from presidents of veterinary associations. The judging criteria was based on providing exceptional levels of care, outstanding expertise and professionalism and great interpersonal skills - all of which Johanna was shown to have excelled in.

Commenting on the ceremony and winners, Petplan’s trading director, Bella Von Mesterhazy, said: “Last night was an evening of coming together to celebrate the hard work and dedication of veterinary professionals in helping keep the nations pets happy and healthy.

“With over 38,000 nominations received this year, these awards continue to go from strength to strength as vet staff and pet owners alike show their support for the incredible work that goes on in practices on a daily basis.

“All of the evening’s winners are truly deserving of their accolades, thanks to their true commitment to their profession, and as the UK’s no.1 pet insurer, Petplan is incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of the veterinary profession in helping pets get the best care.”
