A 70-year-old man has died at a seafront hotel.

Police and medics were called to a medical emergency at a hotel in Weymouth.

At around 4.50pm on Sunday, police and ambulance services rushed to Hotel Rex on the Esplanade.

The 70-year-old man died at the scene.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man's next of kin has been informed, police said. 

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 4.53pm on Sunday, May 7, of a man requiring medical assistance at Hotel Rex on

The Esplanade in Weymouth. Officers attended to assist the ambulance service.

"Very sadly, the man – aged in his 70s – died at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been notified. The man’s next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 16.50 on May 7th to an incident in the Weymouth area. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer.”

Hotel Rex did not wish to comment.
