A MAN was found dead by emergency services just off the Portland Beach Road following a concern for welfare call.
The route was shut last night after police received a report at around 6.20pm Monday March 21, raising concern for a man aged in his 70s in Weymouth.
Following enquiries police officers alongside the ambulance service located the man in the main car park for Chesil Beach, just off the beach road, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Portland Beach Road was closed by police at around 7.45pm until approximately 9.20pm while emergency services worked at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Dorset Police received a report at around 6.20pm on Monday, March 21 raising concern for the welfare of a man aged in his 70s in Weymouth.
“Officers carried out enquiries and located the man in a car park off Portland Beach Road.
“The ambulance service attended and very sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and HM Coroner has been notified.”
The spokeswoman also confirmed it was not a collision.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) added: “We were called at 19.15hrs on Monday, March 21 to an incident on Portland. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances and an air ambulance.”
