EMERGENCY services and two coastguard crews were called to a famous Dorset landmark after a man suffered a 'medical episode'.

Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team and Wyke Coastguard, along with paramedics, were called to Portland Bill Lighthouse yesterday (Wednesday, February 9) afternoon after reports a man suffered a medical episode inside the landmark.

Once on the scene, the coastguard crews assisted paramedics to put the man into the back of an ambulance.

A spokesman from Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team said: "At 1.50pm, we were tasked by Solent Coastguard along with Wyke Coastguard CRT, to assist South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with a gentleman who had suffered a medical episode inside Portland Bill Lighthouse.

"On scene, the casualty was treated by paramedics, and with assistance was able to make his own way to the awaiting ambulance.

"With no further assistance required by paramedics, the team were released and returned to station."
