AN AIR ambulance was called after a man stopped breathing on Portland today.
Ambulance crews were called to a medical incident at Osprey Leisure Centre in Castletown, Portland this afternoon.
Witnesses say they saw an air ambulance fly overhead and circle the area near Portland Castle before landing in the leisure centre's car park at approximately 2pm.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.17pm about a serious medical incident at Castletown, Portland.
"We sent air and land ambulance crews to respond to a male patient who wasn’t breathing. They resuscitated him at the scene, and conveyed him to hospital by land for further care."
Jenny Redmond said her mother saw the ambulances attend the scene.
She said: "At around 2pm my mum was collecting my little boy from nursery on Portland and took him to the beach by Portland castle, just down from Osprey Leisure Centre.
"Overhead the air ambulance circled and landed in the car park of Osprey Leisure Centre, and outside of the leisure centre was two ambulance trucks and a rapid response vehicle."
The Osprey Leisure Centre remains open and closes at 8.30pm this evening.
