Beachgoers have been clambering over piles of rocks left by landslides despite strict warnings to stay away.

The north end of Swanage Bay has been closed for safety reasons following multiple landslips which are thought to have happened on Boxing Day.

Although the beach has been closed and warning signs have been put in place, Dorset Council has today received reports of people attempting to climb over the debris - and has urged the public to stay away.

A spokesman said: "Please avoid the area as the potential for further landslips is high."

The coastguard and police have been investigating reports of multiple landslips in the area.

After many weeks of rain, the cliffs are now seeing some slippage due to the water content and high tides.

A spokesman for Swanage coastguard said: "Please stay clear from the base of cliffs, mudslides and be aware of the tides.

"Please observe the warning signs and tape.

"In an emergency, call 999 and ask for coastguard."
