REVELLERS are getting ready to say goodbye to 2019 in style.

Residents and visitors alike will be flocking to towns in Dorset to see in the New Year tonight.

Weymouth has earned a reputation for being one of the best places to go to for New Year festivities, as thousands dress up for a town-wide fancy dress.

In Weymouth, the pubs and clubs will be filled with people wearing all sorts of costumes.

Tom Steadman from Weymouth Gifts and Fancy Dress said: “Weymouth is the place to come for if you want to dress up for New Year’s Eve.

“It’s been nice to see so many people visiting the town to spend their New Year’s. There have been a lot of holidaymakers coming into the shop today.”

He said 1920s style costumes have been very popular this year, including flapper dresses.

A New Year’s Eve event is taking place inside and outside The Rendezvous on Weymouth harbourside.

It is being presented by Quayside Music Festival and is free to attend.

There will be a children’s party with various shows and arts and crafts starting at 12pm.

This will be followed by live music with DJs and a silent disco from 7pm until 4am.

The line-up includes The Undecided, Chief Lazarus, Leggomen, The Skimmity Hitchers and DJ Devvo.

Big screens will be set up outside the venue.

Meanwhile, The Front Live will be returning to Weymouth seafront.

The headline acts this year will be Radio 1 DJ Mista Jam and Ibiza residents Lovely Laura and Ben Santiago.

A spokesman for The Front Live said: “Weymouth has established itself as a top destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations, even voted in the top 10 places to spend New Year’s Eve, alongside places such as Rome and Rotterdam on goeruo.co.uk, as well as placing in the top 10 in a similar list on TripAdvisor.

“We believe that The Front Live plays a huge part in this international popularity, and hopefully this year’s event will continue to build upon our previous successes.”

The Front Live is organised by nightclubs Aura and The Lazy Lizard.

Last year the event attracted 3,500 visitors from across the country and this year the visitor numbers are expected to exceed 4,500.

Brett Dunster, owner of Aura said: “We are aiming to build upon our previous successes and continue to establish Weymouth as an internationally renowned New Year’s Eve destination.

“This year’s event promises to be the best yet, with more bars, food stalls and internationally renowned performers.”

A fireworks display will take place from the Nothe Fort – the best places to watch will be either the seafront or the harbourside.

First buses will be running a free bus service on the No.1 to Wyke Regis and Portland, No.2 to Littlemoor, No.8 to Chickerell and No.10 to Dorchester and Poundbury at selected times.
