A PLOT of land in Cornwall Close, Weymouth now has permission for two homes.

Dorset Council has agreed to allow the buildings on a site west of 1 Cornwall Close and adjacent to Wiltshire Avenue, together with associated access and parking.

One neighbour had objected to the proposals, as did Weymouth Town Council which was unhappy about the loss of the green space and possible road safety issues.

The new homes will be attached to the end of terrace property, 1 Cornwall Close, with parking spaces on land to the east of 20 Wiltshire Avenue.

Dorset Council planning said the development was acceptable and the land to be used for the homes was not allocated as public open space. Only a little over 20 per cent of the site will be used for the new buildings.

“The overall character of the green nature of the area would be retained by green space opposite,” said a report recommending the scheme be allowed.

“The proposed development is considered to be acceptable and makes best use of urban land as required by the National Planning Policy Framework. It would not involve a loss of formal public open space or restrict public footpaths. The siting and design of the dwellings would sit comfortably within the character of the area and there would be no detriment to neighbouring residential amenity.”

Details of materials to be used and the turning and parking provision have to be agreed with a planning officer prior to the homes being completed.
