Dorset residents can get cheap tickets to one of the county's top museums this January, and then return for free all year.

Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum is offering all residents within the DT postcode sector reduced price entry if they visit next month.

Adult tickets will be reduced to £5 (usually £9.50) and children’s tickets will be sold half price for £2.50. All tickets also include an annual pass, so visitors can return to the museum all year for free.

When residents visit the museum on High West Street in Dorchester, they simply need to show a letter or a bill with proof of address to qualify for the reduced price.

All tickets also include an annual pass, so visitors can return to the museum all year for free.

Since it opened in May 2018, tens of thousands of people have been through the museum's doors to explore the historic courthouse. Children can become court reporters and journey round the cells using interactive iPad technology to discover stories of crime and punishment. Meanwhile adults can explore the lives of those whose fates were decided in the courtroom, from the Tolpuddle Martyrs to Martha Brown, the last woman hanged in Dorset.

The museum hosts regular events including talks, plays, workshops, business networking meetings, event launch parties and gin and rum tastings.

The museum is closed over Christmas until January 2. For more information visit shirehalldorset.org or call 01305 261849
